Lung Cancer Foundation of America Community Partners Project

The Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCFA) seeks to increase the five-year survival rates of all stages of lung cancer by providing the necessary and critical funding for creative, collaborative, translational and leading-edge lung cancer research programs.  Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for both men and women, yet unlike breast cancer and prostate cancer, receives very little federal and private sector funding.  While lung cancer is generally viewed as the “smoker’s cancer,” approximately 10% of newly diagnosed patients have never smoked and 50% have not smoked in more than 10 years.

The LCFA is a 2 year old start-up nonprofit—it consequently represents a unique opportunity for HBS alumni volunteers to help shape the course of the organization and potentially be involved at a board level.  The LCFA has already assembled a national platform as well as an enviable Scientific Advisory Board and has secured a national sponsor, OPI (manufacturer and marketer of nail polish), that has/will continue to run an advertising campaign highlighting the organization.  The LCFA presently needs help developing a comprehensive marketing plan to leverage its existing resources and further develop its outreach.

We are looking for volunteers who are strong in marketing strategy and strategic planning.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email a brief bio and (optionally) a few thoughts about why this project interests you by December 23, 2009 to Carin Salter at clgillary@yahoo.com. Please also indicate if you would be interested in leading the project team.  For more information about the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, go to their website http://www.lcfamerica.org .
